PGW and small presses

I realise that I am a little naive about the working of ‘big’ business but was reading this article from Publishers Weekly and admit to being shocked by the outrageous behaviour of PGW and their lawyers. Seemingly just not caring that their actions were in fact closing many small businesses but at the same time applying for bonus payments for PGW executives to be honoured.

I work fairly constantly for many small presses in both the UK and North America and these amounts quoted (22,000 bucks) would I suspect cripple many of them. So, how do executives (many of whom no doubt earning far more than the publishers they supposed to be serving) justify claiming bonuses for a failed business the downfall of which by definition they must have contributed towards?
