Partial albums: Anything more useless?

Partial R.E.MI mean what is the bloody point? See this is in iTunes all the time. You go to find a much loved record only to find that half of it is missing. See this time and time again and I know is to do with licensing nonsense but really – Talk about designed to a) annoy; b) show no respect for the original work and c) leave people feeling vaguely short changed. Anyway, safe to say won’t be replacing my CD of Automatic for the People from iTunes.

The joy of being a European Mac user

I am in the process of buying a 17″ MacBook Pro. So, it seems I can either buy it on my account in Sweden or me and my partner can fly to New York buy it in one of the Apple Stores and have dinner; few drinks; crash somewhere semi decent and fly home with change in our pockets. Craziness.

Prices in US Dollars: Sweden $5039 or in the US $3452.

Mobile phones on planes – please god, no!

It seems approval has been given for the use of mobile phones on planes. Who on earth thinks this is a good idea I have no idea. Giving more rope to those irritating twats who always exude that air of ridiculous self importance whilst speaking on their mobiles as the stewardness is trying to tell them to switch it off as the doors are closing is almost beyond belief. I strongly suspect I’ll be doing some time in jail somewhere over the next few years for placing a sales reps Blackberry in an inappropriate orifice. Heh, ho – such is life.

Observer – very annoying

I’m sure they have very clever and talented people who do all this stuff and no doubt they have spent something akin to a small fortune in their recent revamp etc. But, is it me or is the site almost impossible to navigate. Alright, I’m slowly getting to the navigation issues. But, some stuff still bloody irritates me. I know what I sound like and to a point I can only agree.

But, was looking just for the jazz reviews in the Review section. And they just bloody call everything ‘Features and Reviews’. Annoying!

Do like this post (in fact I like this blog) about Scientologists sending boxes of unsolicited books to a library.Remember few years ago at Frankfurt Book Fair a friend and I got caught on their stand. And actually had to almost physically snap out of being seduced by them. It all sounded so sensible – but guess that is how it works. Remember me and my friend looking at each other as we walked away thinking ‘what the hell just happened there’.

Still the best cover of the year

Blair may be gone but the offensive; ludicrous; shameful nonsense (despite some hopeful noises) continues.

Airlines and transparent pricing

Saw Ryanair just got slapped down for complaining about a Euro train ad. Cheeky buggers they have some of the least transparent pricing imaginable. Not very Anko at all. But seriously, kind of ok for me as I know it will be that outrageous but for people who don’t travel all the time and who may believe the 9.99 headlines prices not so funny.

Sadly all too common airline crap

Great video on youtube from a guy detailing 7 hours stuck on the tarmac at JFK waiting to take off for Dallas. All big corporates (not just airlines) must hate the ease with which you can now record/document in real time your experiences and shove them up for the world to see.

On the whole I have been very lucky with airport/airline experiences – no real disasters just a lot of aggravations. But, there was one time when I was stuck on the tarmac at Washington Dulles on my way to Miami when they rolled us off from the gate and then just held us on the tarmac for a couple of hours. The reason was because of thunder and the edge of a hurricane coming up from the south – presumably something they well knew about way before we set foot on the plane – anyway there was some problem that meant they had to switch off the air conditioning and although it was spanking down with rain the humidity was just incredible. Not great with screaming kids and a packed plane.

Later, I learnt it was something to do with their take off stats that they have to push off from the gates. But the thing that got to us was the same as the guy in this video – simply the degree to which the airline was prepared to so obviously bullshit us. Nobody likes to be treated like an idiot especially when they are paying for the privilege.

Anyway, this guy was far more patient than I would have been. Especially, like the bit where they say the captain is the terminal when he was clearly still in Newark. Oh, and its alright for the crew to leave the plane but fuck the passengers stuck with no food etc for 7 hours. And, I don’t even want to know what the bathrooms were like on a static plane full of kids after 7 hours.

You do have to wonder about just how dumb people are

Like this post at the ever amusing Broken TV describing some ‘we’ll text baby names to you’ at quid fifty a go for six months deal advertised on UK TV. You might say ‘who on earth would do that?’ but apparently the answer would be ‘loads!’. Think Broken TV guy has a point about questioning evolution after reading this piece.
