Coffee in Stockholm

Feel very fortunate to be in Stockholm at this time as year as the days start to get longer and longer as we head towards towards midsummer. Coffee is never quite the same for me anywhere else or indeed at any other time of the year.

The joy of being a European Mac user

I am in the process of buying a 17″ MacBook Pro. So, it seems I can either buy it on my account in Sweden or me and my partner can fly to New York buy it in one of the Apple Stores and have dinner; few drinks; crash somewhere semi decent and fly home with change in our pockets. Craziness.

Prices in US Dollars: Sweden $5039 or in the US $3452.

Back to Stockholm

Via a bit of a flight returned to Stockholm post the London Book Fair. And the weather has been glorious this weekend. Had almost forgot just what a remarkable place Stockholm is. Sorry for quality of image (rubbish camera phone) but that almost anywhere in the bulk of Stockholm you are never many minutes away from really being able to ‘get away from it all’. One of many reasons Stockholm will always stay with me.

Mobile phones on planes – please god, no!

It seems approval has been given for the use of mobile phones on planes. Who on earth thinks this is a good idea I have no idea. Giving more rope to those irritating twats who always exude that air of ridiculous self importance whilst speaking on their mobiles as the stewardness is trying to tell them to switch it off as the doors are closing is almost beyond belief. I strongly suspect I’ll be doing some time in jail somewhere over the next few years for placing a sales reps Blackberry in an inappropriate orifice. Heh, ho – such is life.

Keith and surely told a million times etc.

Sure Keith must have told these stories a zillion times but this is probably one of the better interviews (that I’ve come across anyway) in recent times.

Life doesn’t get any easier as you get older. It just becomes more complex. At the same time, one starts to discern certain threads which are important to follow.

As someone perched on the edge of getting married and certainly getting older. I’ll go with that.

Observer – very annoying

I’m sure they have very clever and talented people who do all this stuff and no doubt they have spent something akin to a small fortune in their recent revamp etc. But, is it me or is the site almost impossible to navigate. Alright, I’m slowly getting to the navigation issues. But, some stuff still bloody irritates me. I know what I sound like and to a point I can only agree.

But, was looking just for the jazz reviews in the Review section. And they just bloody call everything ‘Features and Reviews’. Annoying!

Sadly all too common airline crap

Great video on youtube from a guy detailing 7 hours stuck on the tarmac at JFK waiting to take off for Dallas. All big corporates (not just airlines) must hate the ease with which you can now record/document in real time your experiences and shove them up for the world to see.

On the whole I have been very lucky with airport/airline experiences – no real disasters just a lot of aggravations. But, there was one time when I was stuck on the tarmac at Washington Dulles on my way to Miami when they rolled us off from the gate and then just held us on the tarmac for a couple of hours. The reason was because of thunder and the edge of a hurricane coming up from the south – presumably something they well knew about way before we set foot on the plane – anyway there was some problem that meant they had to switch off the air conditioning and although it was spanking down with rain the humidity was just incredible. Not great with screaming kids and a packed plane.

Later, I learnt it was something to do with their take off stats that they have to push off from the gates. But the thing that got to us was the same as the guy in this video – simply the degree to which the airline was prepared to so obviously bullshit us. Nobody likes to be treated like an idiot especially when they are paying for the privilege.

Anyway, this guy was far more patient than I would have been. Especially, like the bit where they say the captain is the terminal when he was clearly still in Newark. Oh, and its alright for the crew to leave the plane but fuck the passengers stuck with no food etc for 7 hours. And, I don’t even want to know what the bathrooms were like on a static plane full of kids after 7 hours.

Not a place for jet lagged people

Awake at 4am looking for coffee – downtown Minneapolis is not a place you want to be. There is just nothing – disaster.

No Coffee
